Position Summary

The eLearning Division Dean’s primary role is to provide administrative leadership and direction for the eLearning Division. The Dean reports to the Provost and works closely with the Academic Deans to promote the growth of academic programs through the diffusion and integration of eLearning technology and innovation. The Dean leads a Division that is dynamic and in-demand. The Division’s work encompasses design and development of courses and support for faculty in all modalities, from fully online to face-to-face, as well as providing Sinclair students with the programs, services and support that provide access to an affordable, high-quality education.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Provide leadership to support and promote the Division’s functions: student support in various modalities; development of online, competency-based education (CBE), and hybrid courses; and faculty training and support in course development and enhancements, technology, and the use of the learning management system.
  • Create opportunities to promote the Division and bring awareness to Sinclair about the growth of the online, CBE, and hybrid programs and the trends in eLearning in higher education; participate in various Sinclair task forces, committees, councils and in college-wide initiatives.
  • Stay informed of relevant regulations and maintain compliance with all related agencies.
  • Develop and review annual and short-term goals to assure that the vision, initiatives, and outcomes for the Division are aligned with Sinclair’s strategic plan.
  • Represent Sinclair in local, state and national initiatives related to eLearning, new technology, and various modalities.
  • Ensure that course development in every modality maintains a high level of quality, consistency, and academic excellence.
  • Create and update policies and procedures for online, CBE, and hybrid course development and delivery.
  • Grow and develop online, CBE, and hybrid programs through a business model which ensures that the Division is using resources wisely to meet the needs of the students, employers and the community.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, professional development, team building, and evaluation of Division personnel.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets.
  • Work with the Marketing Department to assist with promotional initiatives.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree required; doctorate degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of higher education experience required; community college experience preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of leadership experience in an eLearning environment required. Specific experience with development and implementation using innovative models that take programs to scale in areas such as online and hybrid programs, competency-based education, and Open Educational Resources.
  • Demonstrated success in working with academic leaders and faculty.
  • Experience with curriculum design and development required.
  • Teaching experience required.
  • Experience with budget management of a department or division required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of current trends in higher education, especially in eLearning, compliance, and technology required.
  • Ability to be flexible and open to adoption of new technologies, work methods, work styles and specialized projects to best suit the needs of a growing Division and diverse student body required.
  • Ability to lead teams in a collegial, supportive, dynamic environment required.
  • Ability to interact with all Sinclair personnel in a positive manner in order to enhance working relationships to best contribute to meeting Sinclair’s goals required.
